I Reflection I

We were given a short amount of time to think and come up with sculptures using everyday objects. Before our sculpture day, i went around stores in hopes of finding interesting things. I came across some halloween decorations and glass jars. I also found some wooden clips and colourful wires. I had some leftover balloons and blue paper from my Communication Pathway works as well.

Number I 1 I was actually an idea one of our tutors suggested i did. They said that if i put the wooden clips on my fingers it could also be a sculpture and that making a sculpture doesn't mean to only use objects/clay. You can use your body to make sculptures too. I thought it was a great idea and started attaching the wooden clips onto my fingers. I won't lie they starting hurting a lot by the time i put the last clip onto my finger. I had to get a photo since i had other works to take care of so i would have to take them off eventually. In the end it was worth the pain my fingers went through as it turned into a creature like sculpture which i enjoy the most.

Number I 2 I was made from a juicer jar i found while walking around the stores. I had some wood with me that i could easily break off and some balloons as i mentioned above. I wasn't sure what i could create with the juicer jar other than a creature. Since it looked like a bird species i went with that idea and stuck my wooden parts as eyes, brows, hands and sword for the bird. It turned into like a bird warrior type creature. Nevertheless, i was surprised i could come up with a bird creature from a simple juicer jar. If i had a few clay like materials i bet i could make this bird actually look more like a bird but the idea of using simple everyday items that can be found in the matter of minutes is what makes this sculpture special.

For Number I 3 I, i recently bought eggs from the local supermarket for breakfast as i eat them everyday and i thought i could use the egg carton for a project and here we are. I honestly thought about this work the most since i wasn't sure how i could actually make it interesting using an egg carton. I took the colourful wires i had and started putting them through the egg carton mountains. My first idea was to make it look like the DNA symbol. Afterwards, i thought the other side of the egg carton looked a bit too empty so i started sticking the wood i had and got one of the skeleton figures i found in a halloween store. I attached the skeleton with my wooden clips and sticked blue paper at the end of the skeleton so give it this coffin look. It was funny to me how one of our tutors commented: "I don't know if you like gore or you just like halloween. Nevertheless, these are very interesting."

For Number I 4 I, i decided to use the glass jar i had. Since at this point i went with a halloween mystery type of atmosphere i thought why not make a bat out of this jar? I first used wood to make ears and eyes then i went ahead and put 2 wooden clips on the metal parts of the jar to make it look like fangs. I stuffed the insides with blue paper and put on some gravestones i made from wood on the surface. Then i placed my skeleton figure inside on the middle. In the end i decided that it looked a bit plain so i made some red bats out of colourful wire and tied them to certain parts of the bat. I liked this work so much that i even thought about displaying it in my room. In my opinion it turned out perfect for the halloween season.

Number I 5 I was originally a pencil case i wasn't using so i turned it inside out and cut some holes in it. I attached colourful metal wires to make it seem like a real red-green-blue electric device we would see on tv. I used wooden clips to make it seem more natural. In the end i think it turned out great as my friends could tell what it was.

Number I 6 I was me creating a background. I thought it would be too boring to take a picture of my Number I 5 I work in an environment it didn't belong so i created a background out of cardboard, blue paper, string, wood, tape and newspaper. I think it was totally worth it as i love set design work.

I Extra I was a sculpture i decided to make with the materials i had left. I didn't have anything particularly in mind while making it but i thought it looked kind of like a spirit charm in the end. I made it from a metal plate i found in an art shop and used colourful wires with string to make it. I used tape to make it seem mysterious so it would fit the theme. It was a nice idea and i think it suited the atmosphere quite well.

Lastly, i took close-up photos to view the details of my work. I was surprised with how many things i could come up with in a short amount of time. It was a very fun day today as i worked mostly 3D which i enjoy a lot.
