I Reflection I

Today was our first day to start working on our Painting project. I generally used materials i found around my house like cardboard, used tape and newspaper. While strolling the streets of London i came across a gift wrapping shop and bought some blue crepe paper as i wanted to implement only one colour to my work as Mohan Samant did and since blue is my favourite colour, i had to go with blue. I didn't have much of an idea of what i wanted to create so i gave myself 30 seconds to just tape and glue whatever came across my hand. After creating a base of card board, newspaper like surface, i thought i'd give 3 of my works each their own creature. After completing one of my works, i decided i'll be going with a "mysterious" and "abstract" kind of atmosphere which will be helping me in the long run. For my first work i wanted to create an Egyptian type of vibe with symbols and zig-zag cardboard cutouts. I also wanted to give it this "deadly" "skeleton" vibe so i experimented with shaped a lot here. For my second work i went with more of a "dungeon", "prison" atmosphere. Though from the comments i received from my friends it looked a bit more like a piano. Which is completely fine with me as i was trying to create a "harmony" with each piece. Under the white "prison bars" i included another stick-dog type creature and moved on to my next work. My final work was inspired by the sea life much like Mohan Samant's work. I created a ship out of wood and cutout a lighthouse using cardboard. Using blue crepe paper as the ocean, inspired by hammerhead sharks that i absolutely adore, i went and created a lookalike creature which definitely completed this piece. In the end i wanted to in any shape or form connect these pieces together in a subtle way so i decided to use string to attach everything together by going through the cardboard cutouts i created in each piece. Overall, i find this work very alluring. Though i do wish i could have done a few more experiments with card board and newspaper i had.
